Three Months

Scotland was three months old on Tuesday. The early days when I noted every minute are over, and now the time is passing far too quickly. The most notable change in Scotland is his ability to interact with the world around him. He loves his toys. He can now grab them, and is often found smiling at them. He particularly likes the eyes on his little friends: such as the above pictured Harry the Horse. His other favorite is Edward the Elephant.
Often when I get him up in the morning, he is crying but his eyes are closed, I’ll pick him up cuddle with him and then lay him down to change his diaper. When he finally catches my eye he will immediately stop crying and give me this bright-eyed smile.

His latest trick is his ability to go from lying down to sitting to standing, when you hold his hands. He is very proud of this accomplishment and often grins broadly when he reaches his feet.

His hand coordination is much better, he still hits himself in the face from time to time, but he can genuinely rub his eyes now.

He is very sensitive to abrupt loud sounds. We set him in this play circle toy the other day, seeing if he was big enough for it. I pushed the little rattle and it made a rather loud sound. He let out this loud little yell. Interpreting it as a squeal of delight I did it again. This time he freaked out- crying and shaking. We felt so sorry for him. He has reacted similarly when a car honked while he was napping outside, and when a loud siren went off in a movie we were watching.

He is becoming more and more aware of when I am in the room, or more importantly- when I am not. He prefers the prior!

Nursing is going wonderfully now, and I can see why so many women forget to mention how difficult the beginning can be. When it works right, it’s a beautiful bonding experience.

My love for this little guy is so immense. The joy I feel when I can sooth his discomfort and bring smiles to his face is priceless.
